Climate Change Business Journal Recognizes CIS for its leadership role in one of the nation’s largest urban green stormwater infrastructure programs.

Ann Arbor, Michigan (April 2, 2024) CIS is honored to receive the Business Achievement Award for Climate Resilience Industry Leadership in 2023 by the Climate Change Business Journal®* (CCBJ), an independent business research publication that provides strategic market intelligence to the environmental and climate change industries.

CIS was recognized for the Clean Water Partnership (CWP), a partnership between Maryland’s Prince George’s County and CIS, and its decade of achievements and recognition as one of the nation’s largest urban green stormwater infrastructure programs. Underserved communities have been disproportionately impacted by weather and climate disasters, and CWP has leveraged infrastructure investments to increase community resilience while addressing historic injustices, building the local workforce, and bolstering local economic development.

“2023 was a year of strong growth, financial performance and innovation for the climate change industry. With energy transition, climate resilience, and a wave of federal programs driving infrastructure investment, a number of ambitious companies took advantage of dynamic markets with new practices, projects and acquisitions.” said Grant Ferrier, editor of Climate Change Business Journal and chair of the CCBJ Business Achievement Award selection committee.

“CWP is a first-of-its-kind, community-based partnership (CBP), a socio-economic solution to delivering climate resiliency at a large scale. Through this 30-year partnership, the county is investing over $350 million in total development costs, and as of December 2023, CIS has completed 215 projects totaling over $250 million”, said Sanjiv Sinha, P.E., Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of CIS. “Over the last seven years, 54% of the hours worked have been by county residents, and nearly 80% of work done has been by local, women, and minority-owned business entities (WMBE), with CIS mentoring over sixty WMBEs”.

The 2023 CCBJ awards will be presented live and in-person at the EBJ Business Achievement Awards banquet at Environmental Industry Summit XXII on April 2-4, 2024 in San Diego.
