EBJ Business Achievement Awards recognize CIS for Business Growth Among Mid-Size Firms, and for Successfully Starting a New Practice
San Diego, Calif. (March 2025) — CIS is honored to receive two Business Achievement Awards in 2024 by the Environmental Business Journal®* (EBJ), an independent business research publication that has provided strategic market intelligence to the environmental industry since 1988.
CIS was honored with recognition in two categories: “Business Growth Among Mid-Size Firms” for its remarkable revenue increase, and “New Practice” for the successful launch of its Advisory Services. In the Business Growth category, CIS reported a nearly 90% increase in revenue, reaching over $72 million in 2024, up from $38 million in 2023, while leading some of the country’s largest climate adaptation initiatives.
In the New Practice category, CIS launched an Advisory Services division focused on water and climate issues in April 2023. By the end of 2024, the new practice had gained nearly 20 clients, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, , Washington State Department of Ecology, Cook County, D.C. Department of Energy and Environment, Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority, The Nature Conservancy, The Water Council (Wisconsin), and the Water Research Foundation.
“In another year of strong growth for the environmental industry in 2024, a number of companies set themselves apart with their growth, innovation, M&A, or signature projects that merit the special recognition of an EBJ award. With traditional environmental markets in infrastructure, air quality, remediation, water and wastewater, as well as energy transition and climate resilience, it is understandable that companies report growing demand for environmental technology and services,” said Grant Ferrier, editor of Environmental Business Journal and chair of the EBJ Business Achievement Award selection committee. “Pivoting with political change and overcoming the multiple challenges of inflation, supply chains, wage increases, labor shortages and changing markets has almost become routine for the resilient leaders in the environmental industry.”
“Over the past decade, CIS has established itself as a leader in public sector infrastructure, successfully managing projects worth hundreds of millions of dollars nationwide, with a special emphasis on distributed infrastructure. Our rapid growth can be attributed to the strength and uniqueness of our community-focused business model, as well as to the expertise of our staff across the company. Given the rising demand for climate adaptation, efficiency, and environmental sustainability, we anticipate continued growth for businesses like ours,” said Sanjiv Sinha, P.E., Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of CIS.
The 2024 EBJ awards will be presented live and in-person at the EBJ Business Achievement Awards banquet at Environmental Industry Summit XXIII on April 02-04, 2025 in San Diego, along with CCBJ Business Achievement, Lifetime Achievement and 50-Year Company anniversary awards.
